I’ll take the case (6-Q)

You decided to hear the lady out, but as she went on you realized she was nothing more than a pair of legs that went on for days who had a story with more holes than a wheel of swiss cheese. She just kept batting her baby blues at you like you’d change your tune and believe a word of it. The dame came to you for answers, but her tale just gave you questions.

Before you could set the broad straight well dressed squinting men burst into the office. “That proves this joe is breaking the code. Ain’t no more evidence we need than this see?” These clowns each pulled out a smoke and cracked open a lighter. Your secretary popped her head in to remind the gentlemen that this building is a non smoking building and the sprinklers would go off if they lit up. Joke was on them huh? Bursting into a man’s office, acting like they owned the- “Hold on right there pal, ain’t gonna be no long winded monologues while we’re here. You broke the code; now you gotta pay ya see?”

Turns out the guys are from a coalition of hard-boiled detectives or CHBD for short. They heard that a black opened up a detective agency and their charter specifically prohibits any blacks from playing the role of hard-boiled as a detective. It’s too much of an oxymoron for them, as mentioned in their charter. This was established back in the day when blacks were servants, so it was never a problem then. But nowadays they have to go around and enforce the rules. “So you wanna keep playing detective, gotta play our way. Soft boiled or you can hang up the badge got it?” You explained that there is no point in being a detective if you’re gonna be a pushover, so you ask them to leave. “Now listen here you hard boiled nigger dick!-“

The room froze right there, but it wasn’t long before I broke the tension with my giggles. “These are the rules bear” he continued. “So you back down or shove off. And if ya don’t play the game, we’ll be taking ya badge.”

You spend the next years of your life in courts fighting the group’s charter. They had quite a good legal team as the CHBD only hire from the hard-boiled legal firms. Fighting in the judicial system on claims of discrimination gets some attention, so many groups rallied to support your cause. Eventually the CHBD back off and change their charter, allowing you to get back to being the best hard-boiled detective bear your can be. You changed the system so now little black boys and girls can grow up and be hard-boiled detectives too. You should feel good kid, ya done did good. Now scram ya hear?

The end
